My Loved One Has Just Passed Away, When Should I Make Contact With the Funeral Director?

You can contact us as soon as you feel ready. Our phone lines are open 24 hours a day, and we have a dedicated team on standby to bring your loved one into our care whenever the time is right for you.

Before we’re able to attend, the death will need to be formally certified by a medical professional, such as a GP, paramedic, or nurse. But we’re here to offer support and guidance at every stage.

Please don’t hesitate to call us, even if you’re unsure of what to do next. We’re here to help.

Do I Need to Register The Death First, Before I Start Arranging The Funeral?

No, you don’t need to wait until the death has been registered to begin making funeral arrangements.

We’re able to start discussing plans and offering guidance as soon as you feel ready.

How Soon Can A Funeral Take Place?

The timing of a funeral depends on several factors, including the circumstances of the death, how quickly the death can be registered, and the availability of the chosen crematorium, cemetery, or place of worship.

In our experience, most funerals take place around 2 to 3 weeks after the initial arrangement meeting. However, this can vary slightly depending on the season or individual circumstances.

We understand that some faiths require a funeral to take place within a specific timeframe, and we will do everything we can to accommodate and support these needs.

    When Can I Collect Ashes?

Ashes are usually returned to our care 2–3 working days after the funeral.
We don’t typically contact families to notify them of their arrival, as we understand this can be a very personal and emotional time. Rest assured, we will look after the ashes until you feel ready to collect them.

When the time is right, you’re welcome to visit the branch where you arranged the funeral, between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. We recommend giving us a quick call beforehand so we can ensure everything is prepared for you, and confirm who is authorised to collect the ashes.

Unless agreed otherwise, ashes can only be released to our client, who is the person that signed the cremation paperwork.

What Days Are The Branches Open?

Our branches are open and staffed Monday to Friday, from 9:00am to 5:00pm.O Visits outside of these hours may be possible by prior arrangement.

Our telephone lines are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, should you need to contact us in an emergency.

Please note: our Coalpit Heath branch is open by appointment only.

Can I Make Plans for My Own Funeral?

Yes, many people choose to make arrangements in advance and set money aside through a pre-paid funeral plan.

If this is something you’re considering, please don’t hesitate to contact us. One of our funeral directors will be happy to talk through your wishes and guide you through the options available.
